Netscape Communicator Version 4.x E-mail setup (pop3)

1.  Go to the Edit menu and select Preferences....

2.  Under the Category tree on the lefthand side of the Preferences box, look for Mail & Newsgroups. Open it to reveal subcategories, either by clicking the + box to the left, or doubleclicking on the words.

3.  Click Mail Servers, then on the right side you will have many fields to fill out   Click the Incoming Mail Servers field and then click the Add... button:

4.  Mail Server Properties window,

• Server Name is mail.yourdomainname.com

   

• Server Type is POP3 Server.

   

• For User Name, enter your full e-mail address using a colon : instead of the @ sign

   

• If you are the only one who uses your PC and are not concerned about other people accessing your mail, check the box to Remember password.

   

• If you would like Netscape to check your mail at intervals, check the box next to Check for mail... and fill in the number of minutes.

   

• Click OK

5.  Back to the Mail Server Preferences window, under the Outgoing Mail Server area:

• In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server field, put mail.yourdomainname.com.

   

• For Outgoing mail server user name, put username/yourdomainname.com

6.  Click Identity subcategory.

• For the Your name: field, put either your name, initials, nickname, or anything you want to be identified with. This will appear next to your E-mail address on the "From:" line of mail people receive from you. You may also leave it blank.

   

• Email address: should be self-explanatory.

   

• Reply-to Address... is just your E-mail address again, and optional to fill in.

   

• Organization: is also optional.

   

• People often put alternate contact information, URLs, or witty sayings for a Signature File:; if you have a prepared text file of information, then select that with the Choose... button. (note that signatures or "sigs" are preferably 6 lines or less)

  Advisable to keep Attach my personal card to messages (as a vCard) unchecked. Most of the time it sends some attached file that takes up drivespace which most recipients can't even use.

7.  Click OK. You're set!
